The new, modern and high-quality boutique Hotel Indigo York, awarded Best Boutique Hotel North Yorkshire 2016, Best IHG Hotel 2016 and Visit York Tourism Award 2017, is situated on one of the oldest streets in York, in the heart of our neighbourhood of Walmgate.

It has 101 new, modern and high-quality boutique guest rooms, designed to reflect the rich chocolate heritage of Rowntree and Terry’s of York and the city’s stonework. On our walls, our guests can look for references to this important history in chocolate production, as well as family names, printed on our bedside lamps, of the people who lived on this street, centuries ago.

Reception Supervisor

We are now looking for a Reception Supervisor to join the team at Hotel Indigo York.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide guests with excellent service
  • Act as Manager on Duty when requested to do so
  • Monitoring the teams workload and overseeing the front desk as the supervisory member of the team
  • Carry out guest requests, ensuring all guests’ special requirements are met
  • Ensure that all guests are kept up to date and informed of all developments to their enquiries
  • Ensure all guests receive prompt, cordial attention and personal recognition
  • Manage the guest service function to ensure corrective action is taken to resolve guest complaints and ensure superior guest service is delivered, liaising with Front Office Manager when it hasn’t been possible to resolve a problem
  • Ensure that all reports and paperwork are completed accurately as requested
  • Be willing and proactive in assisting any other departments when the business requires
  • To undertake all training as required (e.g. first aid, health and safety, customer service)
  • Have desire and ability to improve your knowledge and abilities through on-going training
  • Have the ability to work as part of a diverse team with colleagues from different viewpoints, cultures and countries

Person Specification

1.  Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a pleasant telephone manner
  • Ability to remain calm during difficult situations or in a very busy environment
  • Good administrative skills
  • IT literacy - intermediate user knowledge of Microsoft Office (including outlook) and experience using internet portals.
  • Experience using a Property Management System (preferably Amadeus/Brilliant)
  • Have a good command of written and spoken English
  • Be eligible to work in the UK on full time basis
  • Must be flexible to work on rota basis

2.  Proven experience/education level

  • Previous customer service experience in hospitality industry is preferable
  • Previous experience within an IHG branded hotel is preferable
